The rate, stated plainly
One in 700,000 means that if the number is right, a chest has roughly 0.000143% chance of producing the token. For scale, that is the kind of probability where a player can do everything correctly — right mode, right POI, right squad — and still finish the season empty-handed without anything having gone wrong.
We are not going to dress that up. The rest of this page is about where the number came from, why it cannot be checked from outside, and what it implies for the time you are about to spend.
Data table
One estimate, one row, two columns that decide how much weight it carries: where it comes from and how many chests were counted. Both are answerable, and one of them is still empty.
| Claim | Value | Sample size | Source type | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Token per chest (community estimate) | 0.000143% | [Pending verification] | Community estimate | Community estimate, not published by Epic. reddit.com |
| Chests opened per match | Not reported | Not disclosed | Community | Depends on route and match length |
Epic has not published an official drop rate, so the row above is a community estimate with a caveat, not one of two equally weighted claims. That caveat is also why the sample-size cell matters more than the percentage itself.
Why this is only an estimate
Three things stand between the community figure and a measurement. First, the denominator: nobody can count every chest opened by every player, so any rate is inferred from partial logs and reported outcomes. Second, reporting bias: people post when they hit, and stay quiet when they miss, which inflates early impressions of the rate. Third, Epic has never published drop rates for this class of reward, and the wording in the season announcement does not mention a rate at all.
The cleaner way to think about it is a range, not a point. The reported figure is best read as “a few hundred thousand chests per token, give or take”. Any calculation built on it inherits that uncertainty, including the calculator below.
If a page gives you a drop rate with no source and no sample size, it is a guess wearing a percentage sign. That includes pages that look more official than this one.
By chest type
Players keep asking whether sprite chests, buried chests or vault rares are better for the token. The honest answer is that no source breaks the token rate down by chest type. What we do have is a breakdown of which chest types have produced other event treasures, which is suggestive but not proof.
| Chest type | Token rate | Event treasures reported | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard chest | Not published | Yes | The container named in every token report we found |
| Sprite chest | Not published | Yes | Reported for other treasures; token unconfirmed |
| Buried chest | Not published | Yes | Requires a treasure map marker |
| Rare chest in a vault | Not published | Reported | 4 rare chests plus sprite chests |
| Ammo crate | Not published | Reported | Contradictory player reports, treat as luck |
The practical read: since the token rate per type is unknown, the type with the most chests per minute wins by default. That is a normal chest cluster, not a single vault you have to find a key for.
How many matches should it take?
Plug in your own numbers. The calculator uses the community rate as its input, so its output is arithmetic, not a promise. The useful output is the middle column: the chest count that gives a coin-flip chance. Most players are surprised by how far that sits beyond a season of casual play.

This is arithmetic on an unverified rate, not a prediction. Treat the output as a sanity check on the grind, nothing more.
Update history
- 3 November 2026 — page created. Community figure recorded at 0.000143% with no sample size; all cells requiring a verified rate left as pending.
- Next update — if Epic publishes a rate, or if a large tracked-chest dataset appears, both the table and the calculator input will be replaced in one edit.
